Lake Tahoe’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display at the South Shore will come with an extra dose of technology this year.
The Fireworks by Grucci app will allow users to listen to the Lights on the Lake display’s synchronized music. The show’s musical program will also be simulcast on local radio stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490.
“Now in its 34th year, the holiday tradition will soar and burst with sky rockets timed and synchronized to a soundtrack of familiar songs by pop legends and today’s biggest stars of rock ’n’ roll and country music,” according to a press release for the event.
Billed as the largest Fourth of July fireworks display in the West, the show is set to begin at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, July 4, and last for about 25 minutes.
Timber Cover Marina, Nevada Beach, the beach at Edgewood Golf Course, Regan Beach and on a boat, whether a private one or a charter cruise, are among the popular places to watch the fireworks. The Tallac Historic Site west of Camp Richardson or Bijou Community Park, off Al Tahoe Boulevard, provide additional options for viewing the show without some of the crowds. For the truly adventurous, and prepared, watching the fireworks from the top of Mount Tallac is an unforgettable experience.
“‘Lights on the Lake’ is a tradition that brings generations of families to Tahoe South annually for the world class display,” said Nancy McDermid, chairwomen of the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority, which sponsors the show, in the release. “Every year there’s surprises in the sky — whether it’s a cluster of new multi-shaped rockets or a segue into new songs.”
A fireworks display will take place at Donner Lake’s West End Beach starting at 9:30 p.m. July 4. While West End Beach is only open to Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District residents and homeowners, the display is visible from many spots around Donner Lake.
— Tahoe City’s 70th annual fireworks show will start at dusk on July 4 and include a variety of lakeside seating options. Prior to the fireworks, Tahoe City’s Bell Bottom Beach Bash will begin at noon on Commons Beach. The party will include music by DJ Chapin and a variety of activities, from hula hooping to performances by Penney the Clown. Food vendors will also be on site.
