Duane Mack’s lettuce crop recovered unexpectedly from a record-breaking hailstorm last week. Estimates of the crop’s performance after the storm proved to be erroneous. The 2-acre crop will provide 50 crates for market daily, increasing to 1,000 crates by the end of the season.

For the eighth consecutive season, Mrs. Inez Robie, wife of Revered John L. Robie, will climb the steep steps of the Signal Peak Lookout, in Sierra National Forest. For approximately 5 months she will watch for smokes in the surrounding mountains.
