Empire has a real hero aged 13 years. Six children who were playing on the ice fell through into the river. John Crow, the hero, swam forty feet under the ice to rescue the last child.

Tuesday a heavy wind upset a building at Abe Rice’s chicken ranch near Reno and killed over a hundred chickens.

The Douglas High School Inaugural Band left for Washington D.C. from the Reno airport just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The kids were all on the same plane, shepherded by six official chaperones and one slightly frazzled band director.

Some Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School teachers began to return to classrooms Thursday to prepare for the school’s re-opening next week. PWLMS Principal Robin Pedrett said that a staff meeting had been held at the school, giving teachers up-to-date information about the liquid mercury levels.
