Where better to celebrate the Year of the Horse than Gardnerville Elementary School?

Valley resident and cultural educator Sonia Carlson has been presenting cultural songs, dances, dress and other historical customs at schools and museums in the area for 14 years.

Carlson grew up in the Fujian Province of southeastern China and immigrated to the U.S. in 1987.

Part of Carlson’s presentation included the Umbrella Dance and Ancient Long Sleeve Dance.

On Saturday, Carlson will celebrate the Year of the Horse’s arrival at 2 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City.

Tickets for general admission are $10. Students and seniors are $8 and BAC members are $6.
