The Four Preps return to Carson Valley Inn

Staff Reports

The Four Preps are returning to the Carson Valley Inn Valley Ballroom on March 29 and 30.

The group features original lead singer Bruce Belland and Bob Duncan, former leader of the Diamonds. Mike Redman and Skip Taylor, formerly of the Crew Cuts, complete the quartet.

The Four Preps last appeared at the Carson Valley Inn in late 2010.

“Things have really exploded in the last two years thanks in great part to the constant re-broadcasting of the PBS Special ‘Magic Moments’ in which we are featured,” said Belland. “We’ve done over 200 shows in 20 states from California to New Hampshire, Nevada to Florida including headlining for 10 weeks at the fabulous Palm Springs Follies and a string of sold-out dates throughout Florida and Arizona. We’ve performed for over a quarter million people since our last Carson Valley Inn show and we’re anxious to return to the up-close setting of the CVI’s Valley Ballroom.”

The songs of The Four Preps might stir up a memory or two with hits like “26 Miles (Santa Catalina),” “Big Man,” “Down by the Station,” “Dreamy Eyes,” “Lazy Summer Nights,” “Gidget” and more.

The popular tunes from The Diamonds, Crew Cuts and other artists from the same era will also be part of the March concerts at the Carson Valley Inn.

“The Four Preps’ million-seller ‘26 Miles (Santa Catalina)’ took the country by storm in 1958,” stated a press release. “This song and The Four Preps inspired others whose music became famous. Jimmy Buffet named a chapter ‘26 Miles Across the Sea’ in his biography ‘A Pirate Looks at Fifty.’ Brian Wilson’s biography ‘The Nearest Faraway Place’ sites an appearance by The Four Preps at his high school as his inspiration for starting The Beach Boys. Soon the group was featured in Life Magazine and on countless Ed Sullivan and American Bandstand shows and with Hollywood High classmate Ricky Nelson on numerous episodes of ‘Ozzie and Harriett.’”

Tickets for the March 29 and 30 concerts at the Carson Valley Inn are $22 and may be purchased at the Carson Valley Inn hotel desk or by calling 783-6606.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. both nights.
