Ruhenstroth light contest winners announced
With the much needed rainy weather we are having, it does the spirit good to see all the beautiful lights this year. I think the list of houses grows every year – I wish we could mention everyone for all their hard work.
Our Children’s Choice judges this year were the Paine family; Jade, age 10, Brooke and Nolan, 6 and Brook Cameron, age 12. Their choice for the winner goes to Chris and Jim Beard who once more outdid themselves at 1994 Mule Lane once again. They always seem to take it up a notch every time, which make it easy to add 2015 to their winning streak. The children especially admired the Baby Jesus this year.
The “Spirit of Ruhenstroth” homes seem to become a landmark at Christmas time. The giant tree at 1835 Morgan Ct that shines down over the whole neighborhood wins this year. A special thank you once again for 700 Pinto and the covered wagon. And the Nativity scene on Roan Circle was mentioned several times. Our young judges particularly noted 978 Mule Lane for their “awesome trees to music”.
The “Spirited Expression” category is for all those neighbors who went above and beyond to capture the eye and the imagination. All our judges felt very strongly that 701 Pinto should win this category as the 10 drummers drumming, the seven swans a swimming, the candy cane tree and Woodstock ice skating were spectacular. 769 Pinto was awesome once again this year and we love 1898 Weinstein. Every inch was beautifully decorated, making an impressive entrance to the neighborhood from 395. And we must mention 978 Mule for their 30-foot-tall flashing trees. In the windy darkness they were truly eye-popping.
Our “Getting into the Spirit” homes were also beautifully decorated and contributed so much to the season. 622 Stallion Court wins for their beautiful lights.
Here are some other favorites in no particular order: 640 Megan Court, 2026 Palomino, 640 Rocking Horse, 1934 Morgan Ct, 759 Mustang, 1973 Lacy, 640 Mustang, 602 Stagecoach and 1976 Palomino – love the star this year Kristy. Farrier Court – pretty much everyone had beautiful lights this year, but in particular we enjoyed 996 and 986. The Christmas dinosaur was just terrific. 698 Mustang had a beautiful polar bear. 769 Sorrel was so pretty and the corner of Roan and Sorrel – just loved the lights wrapped around the fence. All of Colt Court was lovingly lit and Regalia court was a lovely glow high above us all.
We are very sad to say that Howie Althouse, who has made our beautiful plaques for so many years, is unable to do this anymore. This year we are awarding $25 gift certificates in Howie’s name to the winners in each category. We love you Howie and wish you all the best in 2016. And a little cash might help with those electric bills.
Third place was 622 Stallion Ct. “Very beautiful love the lights”.
Fourth place was 978 Mule “Awesome trees to music”.
It felt great to take an hour off from my new job (hurrah) to drive around and appreciate all the hard work that goes into making our neighborhood a Carson Valley highlight each and every year. Merry Christmas everyone.
