Nevada, Then and Now, Celebrating 150 Years of Statehood
The Carson Valley Quilt Guild is honored to have been chosen as one of the 150 organizations to participate in Governor Sandoval’s NEVADA150.org.
Their event, the 2014 Carson Valley Quilt Show is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Carson High School. There will be more than 200 quilts on display with $20,000 in cash prizes to the winners of the professionally judged show.
The guild is presenting internationally known quilt artist, designer, teacher and author, Cindy Needham, who is conducting a trunk show and lecture 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.
“Because of the $20,000 in prize money awarded, we are attracting national award-winning quilts to the Carson Valley Quilt Guild Show,” said show sponsor First Pacific Advisors on why they donated the prize money. “This enables Northern Nevada residents to view and admire amazing quilt artwork without having to travel long distances to the regional and national shows. In this way, we are ‘keeping it local’, and even attracting quilt lovers from other regions.”
Entries for this year’s show have been received from Northern Nevada, Southern and Northern California, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming.
The show will include a special exhibit of Challenge Quilts made by guild members depicting their interpretations of the show theme. The shopping mall includes 21 vendors from Northern and Southern California, Washington and Nevada.
A Heritage Exhibit will be conducting stories on antique quilts in a special display. Door prizes, free parking and lunch will be available for purchase by LA Bakery. There will also be 85 baskets and various quilted items available as raffle prizes.
“Plan to attend this bi-annual quilt show honoring Nevada’s 150th celebration of statehood and vote for your favorite quilt under our Viewer’s Choice category.” organizers said.
