Music program performing this weekend

Staff Reports

The inaugural Community Christmas Concert, featuring performances by the Douglas High School musical groups and the Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School steel drum band, will be held Saturday at Saint Gall Pastoral Center, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance is set to begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free, though collected donations will support the high school music program.

The event is presented by the Carson Valley Arts Council in conjunction with the high school music department. Robert E. Schilling, vice-president of the Douglas High School Music Boosters Club, said the program is looking to become a community resource.

“There is a little pride in the music department here at DHS and that’s what sort of the kids want to do. They want to give back a little bit in this community concert. They really are doing the concert as a gift to the community. And hopefully it will be something that we will continue to do year after year with CVAC.”

In another fundraiser tonight, the Douglas High School Madrigal Singers and Jazz Ensemble are performing “A Christmas Madrigal” at the Genoa Town Hall.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $12 for adults, $9 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased from the Genoa town office. Call 782-8696 for information.
