Methodist church hosts annual rummage sale
An antique embroidered chair used by former church pastors is one of hundreds of items for sale at this weekend’s rummage sale.
The Carson Valley United Methodist Church is having its annual sale 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
“We don’t really know the age of it, but you can tell by looking at it that it’s old,” co-chairwoman Sharon Calvert said of the chair.
Calvert and co-chairman Al Baumruck have organized the sale together for five years.
This year’s offerings include hand tools, antiques, books, clothing, linens, crafts, bedding, art, toys, books, appliances, furniture, electronics and a 1990-93 Cadillac DeVille left front fender.
“We never really know what we’ve got until we open the boxes. There’s lots of surprises,” Calvert said. “Everything is clean, and not stained or torn. There’s a lot of stuff.”
With a degree in computers, Homer Boone volunteers in the electronics department of the sale.
“I’ve got four computers that all had Windows XP, and I replaced them with a Linux operating system,” he said. “The beauty of it is if someone buys it for their children, they don’t have to worry about viruses because Linux isn’t subject to it.”
The church is located at 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. For more information, call 782-4600.
