The Knights bingo on Friday is dedicated to the City of Refuge, a faith-based, nonprofit home for pregnant women.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m.

City of Refuge provides housing for pregnant women who have chosen to give their baby the gift of life. The mothers are provided shelter, food, counseling, life skills and education in a family environment. The program’s objective is to assist expecting mothers in becoming responsible and productive individuals who leave City of Refuge changed for the better.

Each mother is required to participate in a program of light work or pursuing their high school diploma or both.

Household tasks are shared among the residents.

“People in the community, and across the nation support them,” organizers said, “and the Refuge receives no funding from the government.”

The City of Refuge will receive a minimum of $1,000 from this event.

“They will also receive an additional $10 for each bingo player (in attendance) over 140,” organizers said. “So we encourage our community to support this important organization.”

The Knights of Columbus hosts Knights Bingo Nights on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at the St. Gall Pastoral Center, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

These events, open to everyone over the age of 21, provide funds to support various community projects and other public needs.
