‘American Idol’ semi-finalist performs in concert series

Staff Reports

Carson Valley Arts Council kicks off 2016 with a continuation of their concert series on Jan. 22.

Singer, songwriter Annie Bosko will perform 7 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

Bosko is a vocal artist who is quickly gaining national recognition as a triple threat – singer, songwriter, and performer.

“She has married these three core musical performing talents, recognizing what so many others fail to see — that a powerful and beautiful vocal instrument is, in isolation, incapable of taking her where she has every intention of going,” Sharon Schlegel of the Carson Valley Arts Council said.

A semi-finalist on season 8 of ‘American Idol,’ Bosko has performed as opening or backing vocal slots with Darius Rucker, Adele, Josh Groban, Dierks Bentley, Big and Rich, Josh Turner and more.

She has performed the national anthem at the NBA All-Star game, recorded for one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, and sang demos for some of the biggest hits on the radio.

All of those accomplishments fall short, however, for a true music maker with the loftiest ambitions.

Through the release of her first EP, her artistry and vision have crystallized in songs including “Crooked Halo” and “Fighter.” Themes of strength, empowerment, vulnerability and self-determination run throughout. And they’re understandable, given her past, as well as her deep-rooted need to create and perform.

The ballad “Fighter” may be the song that best expresses her determination.

“It’s sort of a ministry to people, because everyone is fighting in their own way,” she said. “The idea was to really let this song be a banner that we can all carry in those times when we need it most.”

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $25 in advance; $28 at the door; and students $5.

Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.cvartscouncil.com, by phone at 782-8207, at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center, 1572 Highway 395, Minden, or at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
