Wilczek takes second at Hidden Valley

Cole Wilczek of Genoa took second-place in the boys 13-14 year old age group Monday in Reno during the final tournament of the Northern Nevada Junior Golf Association summer season.

Wilczek carded a score of 93 at Hidden Valley Country to finish five shots off the lead for his age group. He shot 5-over par 41 over the front nine.

Meanwhile, Lauren Hickam of Minden placed fifth with a score of 86 and Koko Terada placed eighth (98) in the girls 13-17 division.

Earlier this summer, Wilczek was a winner in three NNJGA tournaments. He won on July 21 at Wolf Run in Reno (43 for nine holes), July 15 at Thunder Canyon (87) and July 10 at the Carson Valley Golf Course (83).

Carson valley men's club

Marc Prause edged Marc Menezes on a tie-breaker Sunday to win Flight A in the Carson Valley Men's Golf Club individual stroke play tournament.

Prause and Menezes, who have combined to win three of the club's last five tournaments, both carded net scores of 73 to tie for the lead at the Carson Valley Golf Course. Prause also earned closest-to-the-pin honors on the first, 13th and 17th holes.

Jack Sparman shot 76 to finish third in the flight.

David Morris secured first-place in Flight B with his 66, while Melvin Ness carded a 69 and Roger Hala a 70 to complete the top three.

John Watson shot 64 to win Flight C, two shots ahead of John Pearson's 66. Frank Temple shot 72 for third-place.

Charles Poe was the closest-to-the-pin winner on No. 5 and Dan Essary on No. 18.

Empire Ranch

Bill Milligan carded a net 59 to win Flight A last Wednesday during the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club tournament in Carson City.

John Hauck shot 64 to take second-place in the flight, while Mike Rogers, Henry Teague and Dennis Justin tied for third-place with scores of 65 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

Three shots separated five players in Flight B. Ray McPartlin prevailed in a tie-breaker over Gary Mick, both with scores of 63. Adam Huber shot 64 for third-place, followed by John Lewis at 65 and Jack Medeiros at 66.

Flight C was also decided by a tie-breaker, as Greg Bentley took first-place over Bob Blom, both with scores of 64. Bob Pluth shot 67 for third-place, Paul Lockwood 68 to place fourth and Vic Roscha 70 to place fifth.

Jim Laporte earned the closest-to-the-pin awards on Blue No. 5 and Red No. 3, Frank Romano won on Blue No. 8 and Dave Aalbers on Red No. 8.
