Volleyball: Tigers stay alive with win

The Douglas girls’ volleyball team came up big on senior night, securing a four-game win over Damonte Ranch Tuesday to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Senior Shawnee McFadden had 12 kills and nine digs to lead the Tigers in the 25-12, 16-25, 25-13, 25-20 win.

he match eliminated Damonte Ranch from playoff contention, but –coupled with Carson’s win over Wooster in five and Manogue’s win over Galena in three Tuesday night – left a wide variety of playoff scenarios depending on the results of the regular-season finales slated for Thursday.

Manogue has already clinched the league title and Galena, despite the loss, secured a playoff spot at


Carson, Douglas and Wooster all stand at 6-9. Wooster hosts Manogue Thursday night and Carson hosts Douglas.

The winner of Carson-Douglas is automatically in. If Wooster beats Manogue, the Colts would be in. If Wooster falls to Manogue, the final playoff spot would come down to tiebreakers between the Colts and the Carson-Douglas loser.

Playoff seeding will also likely have to go to the tiebreakers as at least two schools, and potentially as many as three, could finish 7-9 in league play.

Against Damonte Ranch, Douglas got a balanced effort from its attacking line as Katie McCullough added 11 kills, Maddy Strauss had four, Jessa Gansberg, Kristina Barnum and senior Jenna Broussard each had three, Ariah Barth had two and Sage Pintler and Tia Lutz each had one.

McCullough and McFadden each had 1.5 blocks and Strauss and Broussard each had one.

Shelby Van Winkle came up with a team-leading 10 digs, 20 assists, six service points and two aces.

Pintler had nine digs, Broussard had five, Bailey Gansberg and Barth each had four, Strauss had three, Barnum had two and McCullough, Hailee Porras and Lutz each had one.

Strauss, Pintler and McCullough each had three aces and Brossard and Barth each added one.

Douglas improved to 10-14 overall on the year with the win.
