Volleyball: Tiger spikers roll past Hug

The Douglas volleyball team had little trouble with Hug High School on Thursday, picking up a three-game sweep with scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-11 in Minden.

Katie McCullough had eight kills, Shawnee McFadden had seven kills, Kristina Barnum had seven kills and Shelby Van Winkle had seven digs and 16 assists to lead the Tigers in the win.

Jenna Broussard had five kills, 3.5 blocks, a dig, an ace and four service points.

Van Winkle had two kills and Maddy Strauss, Hailee Porras, Ariah Barth and Kaitlyn Godde each had one.

McCullough had 2.5 blocks and Barth and Godde each had 0.5 blocks.

Barth had five digs, McFadden and McCullough each had four, Porras and Bailey Gansberg each had three, Barnum and Sage Pintler eachhad two and Strauss had one.

Bailey Gansberg had 10 assists and Godde and McCullough each had two.

Brath served up two aces and McFadden, Strauss, Porras, Van Winkle and Godde each had one.

Douglas improved to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in Northern Division I play on the year.

The Douglas junior varsity volleyball team defeated hug 27-25, 25-18 on Thursday in Minden.

Samantha Brown had five kills, Amanda Weaver had four, Savannah Allmett and Tia Lutz each had three, Allie Galloway and Madeline Lowe each had two and Shay Worley, Savannah Lowther and Nikki Hamada each had one.

Allmett came up with two blocks, Weaver had six assists and Hamada had five.

Hamada and Lowe each had two aces and Weaver, Lutz, Allmett and Brown each had one.

Lowe had four digs, Hamada had three and Lutz, Lowther and Worley each had two.

Douglas improved to 2-3 on the year with the win.

The Douglas freshman volleyball squad defeated Hug 25-7, 25-23 on Thursday.

Emma Sperry led the way with 11 aces.

Shannon Leiss had four aces and a kill, Kaycee Battcher had three aces and a kill and Aubrey Caires and Lizzie Byrne each had three kills and an ace.

Sophie Byrne added a kill and an ace and Macie Harjes had a kill.
