Volleyball: Tiger spikers fall vs. Manogue
September 26, 2012
The Douglas volleyball team stuck with perennial powerhouse Manogue for a game last Thursday, but couldn’t answer the Miner attack down the stretch.
Manogue pulled away with a three-game sweep, winning 25-23, 25-8, 25-13.
The Tigers kept things close with Manogue early on, swapping the lead several times before going up 23-21 on an ace from Shelby Van Winkle late in the first game.
Manogue, though, put together a 4-0 run fueled by a pair of Douglas errors, to close out the game with a win.
That run sparked a stretch of 27 points without the Tigers winning a point outright. Manogue made four errors to give Douglas four points in the second set before Jessa Gansberg put home a kill to break the Tiger drought.
Manogue trailed only briefly in the third game.
Shawnee McFadden led Douglas with five kills and six digs in the match. Shelby Van Winkle had four kills, four digs, nine assists and an ace.
Hailee Porras had five digs, Kristina Barnum had three kills, three digs and an ace, Jessa Gansberg had two kills and Bailey Gansberg had three assists.
