Volleyball game set as fundraiser

Staff Reports

Carson Valley and Pau-Wa-Lu middle school staff members are once again using the schools' rivalry as a way to help raise funds for the American Heart Association.

After holding the "Hoops for Heart" basketball game last year, the two schools are now putting on the "Nets for Heart" volleyball game March 7 at Carson Valley Middle School. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m., immediately after the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department 5th/6th grade basketball championship game.

Regardless of the end result, the match is designed to promote fitness, fun, community, and support the American Heart Association at the same time, according to event spokesperson Janae Ballingham.

"Our mission is to bring awareness to our community and raise a little money for American Heart Association in a fun way," Balligham said.

The cost is $1 for students and $2 for adults, which includes one raffle ticket and a possibility for a prize. American Heart T-shirts may be purchased by fans in the color of the school they wish to support — red for Pau-Wa-Lu and black for Carson Valley. Purchase of a shirt for $8 includes an admission ticket to the game and four raffle tickets.
