Volleyball: Douglas sweeps North Valleys

The Douglas High School volleyball team snapped a two-game slide Tuesday evening with a sweep of North Valleys in Reno.

Douglas won the sets 25-16, 25-23, 26-24 to improve to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in Northern Division I play this season.

Jenna Broussard had a big match for the Tigers, recording 10 kills, four digs and a block and a half.

Katie McCullough and Ariah Barth each had five kills to shore up the attack, Jessa Gansberg and Kristina Barnum each had four kills, Shelby Van Winkle added three more and Shawnee McFadden had another for Douglas.

Barth came up with 12 digs to lead the defense while McCullough had six, McFadden had five, Barnum had four, Strauss had three, Bailey and Jessa Gansberg each had two and Van Winkle and Sage Pintler each had one.

Van Winkle dished out 17 assists in the match and Barnum and Strauss each contibuted two aces.

Douglas defeated North Valleys 26-24, 25-22 Tuesday night.

Emily Schmidt had four kills and five digs to lead the way while Delaney Jacobson had five digs, six service points and an ace.

Tia Lutz added three kills, Allie Galloway, Savannah Allmett and Samantha Brown each had two and Mandy Weaver, Sydne Huck, Makayla Shaver and Nikki Hamada each had one.

Allmett had a block, Hamada had eight assists and Weaver had seven assists.

Lutz served up two aces and Shay Worley had one ace.

Schmidt had five digs, Lutz had three, Weaver and Savannah Lowther eachhad two and Johnnie Saletti, Worley, Madeline Lowe and Shaver each had one.


Douglas defeated North Valleys 25-17, 25-14 Tuesday night.

Shirley Butler had four aces, Emma Sperry had two aces and three kills and Tierra Henry and Kaycee Battcher each had two kills.

Lizzy Byrne had two aces, Aubrey Caires had a kills and Shannon Leiss, Macie Harjes and Sarah Carter each had an ace.
