Track & Field: Tigers have strong showing at regional trials

The Douglas High track program put itself in strong position heading into next week’s regional championships by landing key qualifiers in nearly every event at the Northern Division Regional trials on Saturday.
Olivia Abbott and Aspen Abbott qualified No. 1 and No. 2 in the girls 400 with times of 59.73 and 60.73.
Marshall McKown was the top qualifier in the boys discus, turning in a throw of 156-10. He was also the No. 6 qualifier in the shot put with a throw of 50-3.75.
Lindsey Adams was the top qualifier in the 1,600 (5:20.04) and qualified No. 3 in the 800 with a time of 2:23.77.
Morgan Weston was the top qualifier in the girls discus and the No. 5 qualifier in the shot put.
Brandon Harmon tied the top qualifying mark in the high jump at 5-8. Ian Isherwood, Nick Abreu and Tay Simms tied the top qualifying mark in the pole vault at 11-6.
Douglas’ boys 4×100 squad of Alex Macabales, Nick Abreu, Cole Melhus and Bailey Vidaurri qualified third with a school record time of 43.54.
Lauren Babbitt qualified No. 5 in the 100 hurdles, with Madeline Lowe qualifying No. 7. Lowe also qualified eighth in the 300 hurdles.
Bailey Gansberg, Marissa Cowan, Aspen Abbott and Olivia Abbott qualified second in the 4×100 with a time of 50.71 seconds.
Lizzy Byrne, Adams, Aspen Abbott and Olivia Abbott qualified second on the 4×400. Jessa Gansberg, Byrne, Bailey Gansberg and Cowan qualified sixth in the 4×200. Corryne Millett qualified fifth in the girls long jump, Aspen and Olivia Abbott qualified fourth and fifth respectively in the triple jump and Lauren Babbitt, Corryne Millett and Darby Mattinson all qualfied in the high jump. Shawnee McFadden qualified fifth in the pole vault. Macie Harjes qualified sixth in the discus and Madison Cote qualified 11th in the 1,600.
For the boys, Parker Hoshizaki, Brandon Harmon, Vidaurri and Melhus qualified fourth in the 4×200 with a time of 1:32.58.
Colton Waggoner qualified fifth in the discus with a throw of 136-03. Vidaurri and Melhus qualified seventh and eighth in the 200 with times of 23.00 and 23.15 repectively. Melhus also qualified ninth in the high jump. Joey Swisher qualified fifth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. Jake Passas qualified ninth in the long jump. Abreu qualified eighth in the 100.
