Sports Digest: Nevada softball four-session hitting clinic starts Monday

The University of Nevada softball hitting clinics are scheduled for Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and Nov. 12 at the Line Drive University at 2577 Nowlin Road in Minden.Cost for the four-session clinic is $125.Ages 11-13 runs from 6 to 7 p.m., Ages 14 to 18 runs from 7 to 8 p.m. and open age group is for 8 to 9 p.m.The clinics will be limited to the first 12 participants that register in each group. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bat, batting gloves and helmet. The Douglas High School wrestling program will conduct preseason wrestling workouts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m. at the high school’s small gymnasium.The workouts will help participants get a head start with weight training, preseason conditioning and technique.Interested participants will have to stop by the Tiger Cage near the main entrance of the high school in order to obtain the necessary paperwork to be able to participate.For more information, contact head coach Shane Miller at 775-901-6439 or assistant coach David Singer 775-267-0907.

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registration for its winter adult volleyball leagues through Nov. 16.Cost is $200 per team until Nov. 9, and then $225 per team. Leagues offered include women’s (6-on-6, Monday nights), Coed C (6-on-6, Wednesday nights) and Coed B (6-on-6, Thursday nights).Competition begins Nov. 26 and will include a minimum of eight regular seasons games with a postseason single-elimination tournament. The Carson Valley Girls Softball Association is seeking experienced coaches for its 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U Hot Shots tournament teams.Interested parties must submit a letter of interest so that it is received no later than Oct. 29. Carson Valley Inn will host a free weekly football contest throughout the NFL season. Participants are given a free chance to win $1,000 each week by picking all 10 of the designated NFL games. The contest also pays $100 for everyone who picks nine out of the 10 games.There is no penalty for joining the contest after the first week, or for missing a week, because all prizes are paid weekly with no need to accumulate a certain record throughout the season.INN Club members can enter either at the Carson Valley Inn or at Bodines. Registering is done once a season at a terminal in the Sports and Race Book and takes less than one minute. Entries are accepted weekly at 8 a.m every Sunday.
