Volleyball clinic set

Members of the Douglas High School team and coaching staff will be on hand next week as instructors for a two-day clinic that is open to seventh and eighth grade students.
The clinic will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-5 p.m. each day in the Carson Valley Middle School gym.
The cost is $20 per student. Participants are asked to dress to play volleyball (T-shirts, shorts, kneepads, athletic shoes) and to bring water and a snack. Prizes will be given out as well.
Instruction will be provided in passing, setting, hitting and serving.
Youth basketball coaches, still officials needed
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting coaches and game officials for its youth and high school recreation basketball program.
Fifty volunteer coaches are needed. Head coach application and background check packets are due by Nov. 1.
Officials are also needed. Officials must be at least 16 years or older.
Registration remains open for players. Th e program is open to boys and girls from third grade through high school seniors on Saturdays during a season that extends from December through March.

Elks ‘Hoop Shoot’
The Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge 2670 is sponsoring its annual Elks “Hoop Shoot” National Basketball Free Throw Contest on Jan. 14, 2014 at C.C. Meneley Elementary School.
The contest, which starts at 3:45 p.m., is open to all boys and girls age 8-13 who live in Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.
Each contestant will have 25 free throw shots at the hoop. Children must wear tennis shoes and use provided basketballs. Registration will take place at the event.
Local winners will qualify for the district finals in Reno on Jan. 18 with the state finals to be held Feb. 1 in Hawthorne.
