Prep all-star basketball games tonight in Reno

The fifth annual LSP All-Star basketball games for graduating seniors are tonight at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno. The girls start the action at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30.
Douglas girls coach Werner Christen is directing the Blue squad, which includes the Tigers’ Kelly Sonnemann, Kassidy Freitas and Jesse Jim.
Lowry’s Chad Peters is coaching the White boys squad which includes Douglas seniors A.J. Pfaffenberger, Austin Evans, Pat Johnson and James Herrick.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Soccer club tryouts scheduled
The Carson Valley Soccer Club is hosting tryouts for boys and girls ages 9-13 on June 25 and June 28 at Carson Valley Middle School.
Tryout sessions for the U10 through U14 age groups will be held starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 28.

British Soccer Camp to be held
Challenger Sports will present its “British Soccer Camp” for youngsters 3-to-19 years of age June 16-20 at Aspen Park in the Ranchos.
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the week-long camp.
Each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of British soccer coaches. Challenger’s 1,000 touch coaching syllabus provides a daily regimen of foot-skills, moves, juggling, tactical practices and tournament play. At the same time, the camp staff also strives to instill lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship into each student’s daily routine.
The cost for students ranges from $174-$250, depending on the camp program chosen. The camp hours will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m each day.

Coaches needed for youth flag football
Volunteer coaches are needed for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department Youth NFL Flag Football Program.
At least 40 more coaches are needed for the program, which includes 5-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18 year old divisions for boys and girls. Coaches’ application and background checks are required for all coaches and must be received by Aug. 8.
Games will be held on Saturdays at Stodick Park in September, October and November.
A player draft will be held Aug. 13-14 and pre-season player skills training is scheduled for Aug. 26-27.
Practices may be scheduled no more than twice a week. Coaches determine practice times and locations.

Summer volleyball league season set
Registration is now being taken for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department adult summer grass volleyball league season.
Two leagues are being organized for four-person teams — women’s on Monday nights and coed on Thursday nights — with league matches to be played at Lampe Park near the tennis courts.
The cost is $120 per team, which will include a postseason tournament. Registration closes on June 6.

Carson Valley Golf Course hosts clinics
A series of clinics are now being offered at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
Ladies clinics are being held on Thursdays from 4:15-5:15 p.m. The cost is $10 per class. All levels of players are welcome to attend.
Couples clinics are also being held on Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. The cost is $20 per couple.

Tiger Youth Football Camp June 24-26
Registration is now open for the Douglas Tiger Youth Football Camp being held on June 24-26 for students in third through eighth grade.
Instruction during the non contact camp at Douglas High School will focus on building basic fundamental skills. Douglas Head Coach Ernie Monfiletto said the objective is to help young players who will be playing in the local Pop Warner and flag football league programs this fall.

MEFIYI summer camps June 17-19
Registration is now being taken for the MEFIYI Summer Sports Bash on June 17-19 for boys and girls 8 to 16 years of age.
Two camps at Douglas High School — a speed camp for 8-16 year olds and volleyball camp for 8-14 year olds — are being offered with JoJo and Suzi Townsell serving as instructors.
The speed camp will be held from 10 a.m.-noon all three days on the Big George Athletic Complex track. Participants will go through drills that cover proper running form, agility and balance.
The volleyball camp will be held from 1-3 p.m. each day in the high school’s small gym. Instruction will focus on basic fundamentals.
The cost is $60 for one camp and $100 for two. Athletes need to bring running or volleyball shoes (track cleats may or volleyball knee pads may be used), as well as a snack, lunch and a water bottle.
Pre-registration is being taken at the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department. A parent must complete a permission form at the time of registration.

Lake Tahoe soccer camp June 19-20
The Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls College ID Camp is being held on June 19-20 for soccer players from eighth grade through high school seniors in South Lake Tahoe.
Camp sessions will be held from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, and from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday, June 20 on the Lake Tahoe Community College and South Tahoe Middle School fields.
The camp is being run by Division I Lamar University coach Orlando Cervantes, with appearances also expected from Notre Dame women’s soccer coach Theresa Romagnolo as well as coaches representing the University of Nevada, St. Mary’s College, Chico State, Sonoma State and several community colleges, including Lake Tahoe Community College.
Coaches will give a recruiting presentation at the end of the first day and spend time meeting with players at the end of the second day. Each camper is provided lunch on Friday, the first day of camp.
