Nevada Day Class run on Saturday

About 400 runners are expected to be on hand Saturday for the annual Nevada Day Classic 8k Run and 2-Mile Run/Walk in Carson City.
The race, which benefits Special Olympics, begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Telegraph and Curry streets, then winds through Carson City's historic district. It is sponsored by the Carson Nugget, Ascent Physical Therapy, CV Sports, Dutch Bros. and Road Runners Club of America, and put on by the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club.
Registration forms can be picked up at CV Sports and Ascent Physical Therapy. The entry fee is $35 or $40 on race day.

Youth basketball coaches, officials needed
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting coaches and game officials for its youth and high school recreation basketball program.

Fifty volunteer coaches are needed. Head coach application and background check packets are due by Nov. 1.
Officials are also needed. Officials must be at least 16 years or older.
Registration remains open for players. Th e program is open to boys and girls from third grade through high school seniors on Saturdays during a season that extends from December through March.

CVGC autumn rates available
The Carson Valley Golf Course is now offering autumn rates for players.
Among the specials is a Monday-through-Thursday rate for 18 holes at a cost of $25 for walkers and $35 for riders. The weekend rate from Friday through Sunday is $30/$40. A twilight rate (after 2 p.m. of $20/$30 is also offered. And a family rate offers 9 holes for golf at $10 per player after 4 p.m.

Adult volleyball sign-ups
Registration has opened for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department's winter adult volleyball leagues.
Team sign-ups will be accepted on a first-come basis through Nov. 1. The fee is $200 per team until Oct. 28. The fee will be $225 per team if registered after that date.
Leagues include Women's League on Monday nights, Coed C League on Wednesday and Coed B League on Thursday.
League play will begin the week of Nov. 11 and include a minimum of eight regular season games and a post season tourney.
Games will be played at the Carson Valley Middle School at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.

WNC softball benefit
The Western Nevada College softball team is sponsoring a 5K run/walk at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3 at El Charro Avitia Mexican restaurant in Carson City.
A $30 entry fee for adults will include a dinner buffet and a race T-shirt. Children younger than 8 will be permitted to participate for free, while children 8 to 17 can enter for $15.
The run is a fundraiser for the team's 2014 season.
