Junior golf at Carson Valley Golf Course

Carson Valley Golf Course pro Rob Harbottle is starting a six-week program the week of Sept. 8 for junior golfers ages 5-17.
Sessions are offered at 4 and 5 p.m., based on age. Participants may attend classes on either Tuesday or Friday. Each class lasts 50 minutes.
The cost of the program is $130 for one player and $110 for siblings. An end-of-season event is scheduled for mid-October.

Introduction to golf class offered
An introduction to junior golf class on Sept. 6 at the Carson Valley Golf Course is being offered by the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department.
Participants 5 to 16 years of age will be divided into three groups based on age. The 5-6 year-old age class is from noon-1:15 p.m., 7-8 year-olds meet from 1:30-2:45 p.m. and 9-16 year-olds from 3-4:15 p.m.
Classes will be taught by Carson Valley Golf Course professionals. The cost is $20.

Volleyball class offered for youth
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a Youth Volleyball Skills Class for fifth-through-eighth grade girls and boys that start this week and extend until the first week of December.
Dan Hannah will instruct the classes with a focus on fundamental skills. Sessions will be held Wednesdays and Fridays (starting today) from 6-8:30 p.m. each night in the Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School main gym.
The cost is $175 per session and $300 for students who participate in both sessions.

Carson Valley fastpitch meeting
Carson Valley Fastpitch will hold elections for board positions at 6 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Line Drive University, 2577 Nowlin Rd.
Anyone interested in filling a board position must submit a letter of intent, postmarked by Wednesday, to Carson Valley Fastpitch, P.O. Box 2142, Minden, NV 89423. Letters may also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday.

Kirkwood Adventure Trail Run on Aug. 30
Kirkwood Mountain Resort is hosting the 34th annual Kirkwood 5K/10K Adventure Trail Run on Aug. 30.
The races — which start with one-mile and half-mile fun runs for kids at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K and 10K trail and road runs — are being presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club and the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Race registration forms are available online at the Tahoe Mountain Milers website — http://www.tahoemtnmilers.org — or may be picked up locally at CV Sports at the Douglas County Library in Minden, or by calling 775-588-2864. Pre-registered runners postmarked by Saturday will be guaranteed a T-shirt.
Early registration fees are $30 and race day registration is $40 for the 5K/10K, which includes a chance to win the grand prize, a 2014-15 Kirkwood cross-country season ski pass. There is also a special Youth Club category for participants of cross country and track teams. The fee is $10 and does not include a T-shirt or a chance to win the ski pass. The cost for the kids fun run is $10 and does not include a T-shirt or a chance to win the cross country ski pass. All kids will receive a commemorative "Make Your Own Medal."
