DHS volleyball raising funds at Saletti’s

Douglas High School volleyball, in a drive to raise funds for the upcoming season, is partnering with Jethro's Charity King Crab Feed & Steak Cookout to sell crab feed tickets Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Saletti's Restaurant in Minden.

The fifth annual Jethro's Charity King Crab & Steak Cookout is Aug. 15 at Jethro's Bar & Grill in the Ranchos. The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at three locations: Saletti's, Jethro's and the Douglas Parks and Recreation Department.

Proceeds go to four organizations: The Douglas County Community Center Scholarship Program, the soon-to-be opened FISH Dining Room in the Ranchos, Douglas High volleyball and MEFIYI.

CVMS to host open gym

Basketball open gym for seventh and eighth grade girls who are interested in playing on their middle school teams this fall will be held on Aug. 13-14 at Carson Valley Middle School. The CVMS main gym will be open from 3-4:30 p.m. Coaches from the CVMS and Pau-Wa-Lu middle school programs will be available to answer questions regarding tryouts. Raiders booster club holds membership drive

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club is holding its annual membership drive and picnic on Aug. 16 at Dayton State Park starting at 11 a.m.

The picnic is free for members, and fans are invited to attend for $5 per person or $15 per family. Membership dues are $30 per person or $40 per family. The club will provide burgers, hot dogs and water, and attendees are asked to bring side dishes to share.

Race walk championships Sunday at South Tahoe

The USA Track and Field 3,000-Meter Race Walk Championships will be held Sunday at the South Tahoe Middle School in South Lake Tahoe.

The women's race starts at 9:30 a.m. on the Community Youth Sports Complex track, followed by the men's race at about 10:20 a.m. The race walks are hosted by the Pacific Race-walking Organization.

Zephyr Cove tennis mixer today

The Zephyr Cove Tennis Club is hosting tennis mixers on the first Wednesdays of each month, with the next one being Wednesday.

Players for this "Aloha Hump Day" are encouraged to dress Hawaiian-style, with a prize going to the best-dressed. Play starts at 5:30 p.m. The doubles mixer is for adult players of all abilities.

The Hump Day mixers are $10 for club members, $15 for non-members, and $5 for spectators (meal only).

Participants are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert, as well as beverage of choice that does not come in a glass container. No advance sign-up is required.

Zephyr Cove Tennis Club has six courts nestled in the woods overlooking Lake Tahoe. Open to the public, the club offers lessons for all ages, membership, social mixers, and open play. The club is on Warrior Way off Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove.

Volunteer football coaches needed

Volunteer coaches are needed for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department Youth NFL Flag Football program. The program includes 5-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18 year old divisions for boys and girls. Coaches' application and background checks are required for all coaches and must be received by Aug. 8.

Games will be held on Saturdays at Stodick Park in September, October and November.

Tahoe rim trail camp Aug. 16-17

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will hold its second Tahoe Rim Trail Back Country Camp on Aug. 16-17 at the Marlette Peak Campground.

TRTA is seeking volunteers to assist with trail work including widening tread, clearing brush, and building rock retaining walls. At this year's camp the TRTA aims to reconstruct the Marlette Peak Trail so it can be opened back up to equestrians and mountain bikers.

In addition, the camps need kitchen volunteers to help our fantastic camp chef's prepare hearty meals for the camp.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association has been hosting Backcountry Camps for more than 25 years.
