Sports Briefs: Adult baseball sign-ups open Monday

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department Baseball League early registration begins Monday.
Cost is $950 per team before April 19, and $1,000 after.
Registration deadline is April 26. Payment is required at the time of registration.
Games will be Sundays at Lampe Park starting May 12 between 9 a.m. And 4 p.m.
The league includes a minimum of 10 games with the top four teams advancing to a single elimination tournament. An award will be given to tournament winners. Players must be at least 18 years old.

Hunter safety class offered
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office will host a Hunter Safety Class on March 25. It will be the last time the office hosts a class before the fall.
Classes are limited to 35 students per class and pre-registration is required. To pre-register, visit ndow.org and click on the "Learn and Participate/Hunter Ed Class." Those without online access can call 782-9900 during business hours.
The completion of a workbook is mandatory prior to the class. The workbook can be obtained at the Sheriff's Office or purchased online. Cost for the course is $5, unless the participant is younger than 18, in which case fees are paid by the Carson Valley Chukar Club.
Anyone who passes the course will receive a certificate valid anywhere in the United States or Canada. The certificate will allow the holder to purchase a hunting license.
The course will cover several topics, including wilderness survival, gun safety, wildlife habitat and conservation, archery and hunting regulations.
The Carson Valley Basketball Association AAU program will host four dribble camps starting Saturday.
Sessions are March 23, March 30, April 20 and May 11 at Douglas High School from 9 to 10 a.m.
Camps will focus on skills work, including dribbling, ball handling and passing skills. Sessions are open to all third-grade through 11th-grade boys and girls.
Current members of the CVBA or Minden-Gardnerville Basketball Girls AAU Club are free.
Otherwise, cost is $20 for all four camps or $5 per session.

Genoa Lakes Ladies Golf Club
The Genoa Lakes Ladies Golf Club invites all women golfers to join its upcoming season of tournament and social play.
Tuesday weekly events, plus Northern Nevada Women's Golf association activities will begin April 2.
Applicants do not have to be members at Genoa Lakes. Reduced green fees will be available on tournament days.

Summer adult softball sign-ups
Sign-ups for the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department Summer Softball League will run through April 12.
Cost is $700 per team (two nights per week) or $525 (one night per week) prior to April 5 and $750 and $525 after April 5.
Games begin April 22, and game times will be between 6:30 and 9 p.m.
Players must be 18 or older to participate.
Leagues offered are Coed Open (Thursdays), Men's Open (Mondays and Wednesdays), Men's D (Tuesdays) and Women's (Mondays).

Derby volunteers needed
The annual Kids' Fishing Derby, set for June 1-2 at Lampe Park, is seeking volunteers to help with this year's edition.
Volunteers are needed to help set up, tear down, register, assist on the river, clean fish and other tasks beginning May 29 and continuing through June 2.
Anyone interested in volunteering can pick up a volunteer form at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department and mail it in.
Registration forms are also available at The Tack Room in Gardnerville, or at Raley's every Saturday in April and May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All volunteers must attend one of the following volunteer meetings at the Lampe Park Pavilion: May 18, 9 a.m.; May 22, 6 p.m. or May 29, 6 p.m.

Intro to junior golf
Juniors ages 5 to 16 can learn the basics of golf including rules, etiquette, putting, chipping and full swing at the Introduction to Junior Golf clinic April 13 at Carson Valley Golf Course.
Class times at 12 to 1:15 p.m. for ages 5-6, 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. for ages 7-8 and 3 to 4:15 p.m. for ages 9-16.
Cost is $20 and includes club rentals and golf balls. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-registration is required.

Molly Award nominees sought
The MEFIYI Foundation will present its ninth-annual Molly Youth Awards Banquet sponsored by Greater Nevada Credit Union on May 13 at the Carson Valley Inn.
The event is named after former Douglas High School student-athlete Molly Lahlum, who passed away in 2009.
Nominations are being accepted for the awards, which honor the outstanding youth of Douglas County.
Applicants eligible for the recognition must be between the ages of 9 and 18 and a Douglas County resident. They must qualify in areas of academic excellence, athletic participation and community service.
Three $1,000 college scholarships will be awarded to seniors who apply and become honoree's at the event. Senior honorees automatically become candidates for the scholarships. Forty student athletes will be selected for the 2013 class.
A completed nomination form must be postmarked or e-mailed no later than April 20.

24th annual Kids Fishing Derby
The 24th annual Kids Fishing Derby is set for June 1 and 2 at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
The derby is open to kids ages 3-12, and family activities and concessions will be available. Tickets are free, but all participants must pre-register to receive a ticket.
Derby hats, T-shirts and other re-sale items will be available for purchase. Raffle tickets are available for $1 each or six for $5. Grand prizes include a 2-seater go-kart and a Tragger pellet grill. All proceeds go back into the derby.
Registration forms, for mail-in only, are available at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department.
Registration and session tickets will be available every Saturday in April and May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gardnerville Raley's and The Tack Room, 1504 Highway 395, Unit 10.
The fourth fishing session on June 1 begins at 2:30 p.m. and is reserved for special needs fishermen.

Douglas football alumni golf tournament
The second annual Douglas High School Football Alumni Golf Tournament will be June 22 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
All alumni players, coaches and family are welcome to participate.
A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per foursome. Cost after May 1 is $125.
Hole sponsorships are available as well for $100 per hole.
Dinner at the Carson Valley Country Club is provided as part of the tournament and includes pulled pork, chicken, beans, salad and soft drinks. All participants receive a golf towel.
