Skiing: Tigers fourth overall at Heavenly slalom race

The Tahoe Basin Ski League conducted a doubleheader slalom race at Heavenly on Wednesday.

The Douglas High School girls had a breakout performance for the first race of the day, taking third as a team in the slalom.

The boys were fourth, and the overall team also finished fourth.

South Tahoe won the overall race and the boys race, with North Tahoe taking the girls race.

Tara Cottrill led the Tigers, taking 13th with a combined time of 1:14.0. Kate Hill was 19th and Tess Laub was 20th.

Carolyn Wilber took 23rd, Kelsey Lalonde was 24th, Madison Cote was 25th and Macie Harjes 26th. Samantha Crawford had a strong first run of 35.81 seconds, which would have placed her near the top 10, but she was unable to finish the second run.

Grant Dunkelman was the top performer for Douglas in the boys race. He finished 13th with a combined time of 1:05.0.

Ryan Kochen finished 24th, Trent DeGiovanni finished 25th, Logan Lalonde was 32nd, Zach Ingrey was 36th and Owen Elmquist took 37th.

In the afternoon race, Douglas again took third in the girls, fourth in the boys and fourth overall. South Tahoe was first overall, and first in the boys. North Tahoe again took the girls race.

Hill was Douglas’ top girls finisher in the second race, taking 20th with a time of 1:01.0.

Laub took 21st, Harjes was 24th, Wilber finished 25th, Cote was 27th and Lalonde was 28th.

Cottrill posted a solid 28.38 on her first run, good enough for 15th, but did no complete her second run. Crawford didn’t finish her first run, but posted the 15th-fastest second run at 28.4 seconds.

On the boys side, Dunkelman had a breakout race, taking sixth with a combined time of 45.66 seconds.

Kochen was 17th, Lalonde was 23rd, Cole Pinther was 32nd, Elmquist was 33rd, Ingrey was 34th and Sam Wilson was 38th.
