February 8, 2013
The Douglas High ski team finished fifth at the Diamond Peak Giant Slalom on Wednesday.
South Tahoe won the overall race with a combined 401 points. The Vikings girls squad was first in its race, while the boys took second. Truckee won the boys race.
Douglas put up 252 points as a team with the boys taking fifth and the girls taking sixth.
Samantha Crawford was Douglas’ top finisher, taking 16th with a time of 1:18.
Tara Cottrill was 20th at 1:21, Kate Hill was 29th at 1:31, Shaena Robinson finished in 1:39, Macie Harjes finished in 1:42, Carolyn Wilber finished in 1:43 and Tess Laub posted a 1:49.
On the boys’ side, Ryan Kochen was Douglas’ top finisher, taking 20th with a time of 1:21. Ben Meyer was 26th with a time of 1:29. Sam Wilson posted a time of 1:35, Logan Killion finished in 1:38, Cole Pinther finished in 1:42, Owen Elmquist had a 1:46, Zach Ingrey had a 1:51 and Shane Severance finished in 2:08.
Last week, The R-C incorrectly printed that Cottrill had not finished the second run of her slalom race at Heavenly. She turned in a 15th-place run on her first try and came back to post a 13th-place run on her second. However, on the second run, course officials failed to record her time thinking she was a forerunner on the course as she was the first racer to navigate the second run.
