Wolves volleyball post key win over Muckers

The Coleville High volleyball team vaulted back into the thick of the Western Division IV championship race on Saturday with an important 3-1 victory at home against Virginia City.

By winning, Coleville (9-2 league, 14-9 overall) moved into what amounts to a four-way tie for first-place in the standings. Coleville, Smith Valley and Virginia City are deadlocked with 9-2 records, while Whittell is a half-step behind at 9-3.

Coleville defeated Virginia City by game scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-13, 25-20.

The Wolves were led by Miranda Sturdivant who had 8 kills, 5 aces and 29 assists. Stephanie Sandoval had 7 kills while hitting for a .600 percentage, and Thais Oda added 4 aces.

Coleville rebounded from a 3-1 loss on Oct. 15 at Whittell. All four games went down to the wire, with Whittell winning 25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 26-24.

The Wolves host Smith Valley on Tuesday and celebrate homecoming on Saturday with a match against Mineral County.
