Tigers’ swimmers face tests

Staff Reports

One more step remains for the Douglas High School girls and boys swimming and diving teams in their bids for another perfect season.

The Tigers host Reno and Galena Saturday in a regular season-ending double dual meet featuring three of the top Northern Division I programs. The meet is scheduled to start with the divers at 8 a.m. and the swimming races at 10 a.m. at the Carson Valley Swim Center.

Douglas will recognize the 23 seniors on its roster as part of the Senior Day festivities, according to coach Sarah Davenport.

"It's going to be the best meet, other than the regionals," Davenport said.

Douglas is riding two impressive league win streaks — the girls team has now won 54 straight and the boys 39 have won in a row. The last loss for the Douglas boys came at the end of the 2008 season. The girls lost their last dual against Galena at the end of the 2006 season.

Nevertheless, the big test ahead is the Division I and Division I-A Northern Region Championships on May 16-17, at the Carson Aquatic Facility in Carson City. The diving is Thursday at the Carson Valley Swim Center. The top three finishers in each Division I event qualify for the state championships May 24 in Las Vegas.
