Sargent, Heat start 5-0 in Southern Cal

Kali Sargent and the Reno Heat 16U age group softball team started on a strong note this weekend during the Premier Girls National Championships in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Sargent, a senior-to-be at Douglas High School, pitched as the Heat won their first five games against teams representing Georgia, California, Oregon and Texas.

On Tuesday morning, Sargent earned credit for the save in an 8-6 win over Southern California-based Lady Lightning Gold. Sargent pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowed seven hits, with four strikeouts and no walks. She hit 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Sargent also pitched the final three innings and hit a home run Monday for the Heat in their 9-3 win against Texas Sudden Impact 9-3. The Heat put up three-run rallies in the fifth and seventh innings while Texas only managed to collect four hits.

On Sunday, the Heat defeated Bay Area-based California Riptide 11-1, as Sargent pitched the first four innings of a collaborative four-hitter with Reno High School's Kylie Spencer. Later in the day, Reno defeated Oregon's Northwest Batbusters, 5-2, aided by a three-run second inning rally and two more runs in the sixth to break open a one-run struggle. Sargent pitched the final two innings.

The Heat opened Saturday with a 5-2 win against the East Cobb, Ga. Bullets. Sargent started and pitched three innings, allowed one run with three strikeouts. Sargent combined on a five-hitter with Spencer.
