Meyer, Shaver help Lightning win title

Douglas High School players Allison Meyer and Makayla Shaver helped the Nevada Lightning 98 16U softball team sweep to the championship of its age group last weekend at the USA Preps SoCal National Qualifier in Palmdale, Calif.

The Lightning, comprised of players from eight western Nevada high schools, went 6-0 to capture the title in a tournament held Friday through Sunday.

Meyer hit .588 with two doubles and a home run while Shaver hit .400 with a double and home run. Both will be juniors at Douglas this coming year.

The Lighting won their six games by a combined score of 48-1, capped by an 8-0 victory against Tri County Smash (Modesto, Calif.) in the championship game.

By winning, the Lightning qualified for a return trip to Southern California on Nov. 7-10 to play in the USA Preps Nationals.
