Homecoming: Tigers face Cougars
September 26, 2013
The Douglas High football team is looking to continue building momentum tonight when the Tigers celebrate homecoming against Spanish Springs.
Douglas (1-3), coming off a dramatic 14-6 win at Hug last week, will face potent Spanish Springs (1-2) in a game scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Spanish Springs lost a considerable amount of talent from last year — including a 59-28 win over the Tigers — but the Cougars still bring some quality weapons to the table.
Senior quarterback Hunter Fralick — who the Daily Sparks Tribune reports has verbally committed to the University of Nevada — has thrown for 700 yards, 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions this season. Gehrig Parks has been his favorite target this season with 21 receptions for 391 yards and 5 TDs.
C.J. Carithers has rushed for 252 yards and 5 TDs, including a 67-yard scoring burst last week in a 48-21 loss against Galena. Jeff Jurgensmeier, a first-team all-league running back in 2012, has also rushed for 117 yards and 1 TD.
For Douglas, senior quarterback Wes Hundley is a dual threat as the team's leading rusher with 197 yards and as a passer, having completed 32 of 61 passes for 261 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception. Hundley's 14-yard touchdown run with 7.2 seconds left to play was the difference for the Tigers in their win at Hug.
Junior running back Cale Kynett scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 5:41 left to tie the score 6-6 and set the stage for the come-from-behind victory.
Bailey Vidaurri leads the team in receiving with 12 catches for 132 yards and 1 TD.
