Douglas swimmers extend win streaks
March 20, 2014
A pair of impressive win streaks were extended Friday for the Douglas High School girls and boys swimming and diving teams. The Tigers’ girls cruised to Northern Division I dual meet victories at home against North Valleys (229-27) and Hug (226-26) at the Carson Valley Swim Center. The boys won with equal ease by scores of 225-30 against North Valleys and 229-9 against Hug.
The girls have won 47 consecutive dual meets and the boys have won 33 straight.
The best highlights, however, came from the intersquad competition, especially in the relay races. Just look at the 200 freestyle relay, where two Douglas teams raced right down to the finish. The team of Adam Dack, Taylor Souza, Tay Simms and Kyler Forbes clocked a 1:49.03 to edge the quartet of Janosch Lancaster, Eric Jacobs, Jayden Forbes and Jake VanBeuge in 1:50.03.
In the girls 200 freestyle relay, Courtney McKimmey, Anna Lancaster, Rachel Chen and Shaelin Morefield won in a time of 1:58.13, just ahead of Rocio Meza, Clara Gray, Karla Meza and Shelby Koontz in 1:59.95.
Individually, Dack won the 500 freestyle with a solid 5:25.71 effort that was more than two seconds faster than his time for fifth-place at last year’s region meet.
Janosch Lancaster and Dack went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle with respective times of 1:58.67 and 2:03.06. On the girls side, Koontz was a double winner in the 200 freestyle (2:04.70) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.11), while Morefield won the 200 individual medley (2:22.05) and 100 backstroke (1:05.43).
