Douglas cross country girls win Twilight title

Douglas High's girls cross country team opened defense of its Northern Division I Region championship on a positive note Friday night by winning at the University of Nevada-hosted Twilight Classic in Sparks.
Douglas scored 70 points to win the large schools girls team title for the second year in a row, followed by Sierra League rival Galena (94 points).
Senior Lindsey Adams led the Tigers as she placed third with a time of 15:20 over the 4-kilometer layout (2.5 miles) at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex. Truckee's Skyler Flora won the race in 15:03, while Reno's Kyra Hunsberger placed second in 15:14. Adams is the defending region individual champion and has two titles in three years.
Douglas had four runners crack the top 20, as Moriah Munyan placed sixth (16:25), Madison Cote 15th (16:47) and Rebecca Corbett 17th (16:57). Lizzy Byrne placed 35th (17:58).
Cristina Munoz also ran 18:13 and Megan Ruffo 19:02 for the Tigers.
Austin Croxall ran 13:53 to place 13th in the large schools varsity boys race, which started at 9:40 p.m. John Munyan placed 18th (14:16), Nolan Greth 27th (14:35), Lars Ponsness 35th (14:49), Conner Lyman 40th (14:55) and Danner Hillman 41st (14:59). Jake Evans also ran 15:50 and Alex Hartootunian 15:52.

McQueen captured the team title with 29 points, while Galena took second (94) and Douglas third (121). McQueen's Kai Benedict ran 12:56 to win the race.
Douglas finished sixth in the JV girls race, led by K.D. Denhert and Lindsay Hudnall, who ran 19:47 and 19:51 respectively. Braden Hudnall ran 16:00 to lead the Douglas JV boys to seventh-place.
