Here is a breakdown on some Carson Valley athletes who have graduated from high school and now compete in college:


CODY BEGOVICH — Northeastern State University (Tahlequah, Okla.), 2012 Douglas High School graduate: Begovich helped the RiverHawks sweep past top-seeded Central Missouri in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association playoffs last weekend. After the RiverHawks (26-26) won the series opener, 6-5 in 11 innings, Begovich hit 2-for-5 with one RBI and three runs scored in an 11-10 win in game two. Begovich doubled down the right field line to lead off the game and scored during a three-run first inning rally, then hit an RBI single in the second inning as the RiverHawks took a 6-0 lead. Northeastern State faced Missouri Western Thursday in the MIAA semifinals. Begovich is hitting .295 for the season with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs and a .516 slugging percentage.

SHANE FENCL — Feather River College (Quincy, Calif.), 2011 Douglas High School graduate: Feather River was eliminated from the regional playoffs last weekend by losing two of three games against Mission College in Quincy. Fencl hit 0-for-2 in the series. The Golden Eagles finished 29-10 for the season.


GARRETT TENNEY — University of Jamestown (N.D.), 2010 Douglas High School graduate: The senior broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a 177-foot, 4-inch effort Saturday at the Ron Masanz Memorial Track and Field Classic, hosted by Minnesota State University-Moorhead. Tenney placed fourth bested his previous record by 11 inches. The team competes today at the North Star Athletic Association meet in Valley City, and Tenney has already qualified to throw at the NAIA nationals May 22-24 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

ASPEN ABBOTT — Southern Oregon University (Ashland, Ore.), 2013 Douglas High School graduate: Abbott ran a leg for Southern Oregon's first-place 4×400 relay team at the Pacific Twilight Invitational Saturday in Forest Grove, Ore. The team clocked a time of 4:02.53.
