Stephanie Sandoval and Nicole Smith combined to score 29 points and grab 18 steals Friday night for the Coleville High girls basketball team in its 45-16 Western Division IV victory at home against Whittell.
Coleville (6-3 overall, 1-1 league) outscored Whittell 14-3 in the second quarter to take charge of the contest. Sandoval had 16 points and 10 steals to lead the Wolves, while Smith contributed 13 points, 8 steals and 8 rebounds. The Wolves had 26 steals as a team.
Lauren Byers added 6 points and 4 assists and Miranda Sturdivant contributed 6 points.
The Wolves were not as fortunate on Saturday, however, when they dropped a 60-32 decision at Pyramid Lake. The Lakers bolted to a 16-2 first-quarter lead en route to a win that improved their record to 8-1 overall, 2-0 in league.
Shaylor McCann scored 12 points and Sandoval 7 for Coleville. Smith grabbed 15 rebounds, 8 of which came on the offensive end, and also had 5 steals.
Coleville split two league games, starting with a 54-53 loss Friday against Whittell and followed by a 53-41 win at Pyramid Lake. The Wolves return to action on Jan. 4 when they host Virginia City.
