Here is a breakdown on some Carson Valley athletes who have graduated from high school and now compete in college:


WADE MEDDLES, Eastern Kentucky University, 2010 Sierra Lutheran High School graduate: Meddles placed sixth at the Southeast Region meet on Nov. 15 with a strong 28:56.4 effort for the 10-kilometer course in New Orleans. Meddles and his Eastern Kentucky teammates ran on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. (results were not available at press time). Eastern Kentucky was ranked No. 16 in the nation coming into the meet.

SADIE GASTELUM, California State University-Chico, 2012 Douglas graduate: The redshirt freshman ran on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Championships in Spokane, Wash. (results were not available at press time). Gastelum placed 26th (22:53 for 6 kilometers) on Nov. 9 at the West Region meet in Spokane.

DEVYN HOTHO — St. Olaf College (Minnesota), 2011 Douglas High School graduate: Hotho scored her first goal of the season on Nov. 15 in St. Olaf’s 3-2 victory against Saint Benedict, then the next day, added two assists in a 6-2 win against Saint Benedict. St. Olaf played two games this weekend against the University of St. Thomas.


BRENNA WHITE — Mercy College (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.), 2011 Douglas graduate: White was named second-team all-East Coast Conference. She led the conference in kills with 507.

ERIN ALLISON — Marymount University (Arlington, Va.), 2011 Douglas graduate: Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team finished as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Region Championships runner-up. Allison had a match-high 13 kills for the Saints in their semifinal win against Grove City. Marymount finished with a 20-15 season record and Allison was named second-team all-Capital Athletic Conference.


DILLON SPATES — Waldorf College (Iowa), 2011 Douglas High School graduate: Spates placed sixth in his 141-pound weight class with a 2-2 record last Saturday at the Dakota Wesleyan Open in Mitchell, S.D.
