Alpine phones back online after four days

A software failure is being blamed for a four-day phone outage that affected 200 Frontier Communications customers in Markleeville and the east slope. Phone service was restored to parts of the county on Wednesday night. Frontier spokeswoman Christine Reap said Frontier worked through the week to restore service to the Alpine County seat. Phone service was down in Markleeville on Sunday and on Tuesday, the outage spread to the rest of eastern Alpine County.
