Douglas girls tennis remains undefeated

Madelyn Landerfelt and Courtney McKimmey posted noteworthy wins in singles and Douglas High’s girls tennis team kept its unbeaten season record intact on Tuesday with a 17-1 victory at home against Incline.

The Tigers (8-0) closed out the regular season Thursday at home against Damonte Ranch (results were unavailable at press time) in the final obstacle in their bid to lock up the Sierra League championship and No. 1 seed to the Northern Division I Region team playoffs next week.

Landerfelt, a freshman playing in the No. 1 singles position, began her day with a 6-1 win against Incline’s Anne Schrage, the defending Northern 1-A regional champion. McKimmey also won her set against Schrage by a 6-1 score in the third round.

Douglas swept the doubles play, losing only one game in the process.

The Douglas boys picked up their first win of the season by a forfeit, since Incline only had two players available. Officially, the match score is 18-0

Incline brought their two players to Lampe Park to play three sets of singles with our players, according to coach Rod Smith. “We gave some of our doubles players a taste of the singles life,” Smith noted. “Senior Kyle Barnes came away with an impressive 7-5 win against a steady Incline opponent. Kyle’s serve and forehand groundstrokes were solid throughout the set.”
