Madelyn Landerfelt swept her three singles opponents on Thursday to lead the undefeated Douglas High girls tennis team to a 13-5 victory at South Tahoe.
Landerfelt, a freshman playing No. 1 singles, only dropped one game while keeping her own perfect season record intact for Douglas (7-0). Her first-round set victory came 6-1 against South Tahoe senior Maggie Lee, the Northern 1-A Region runner-up in 2012.
Douglas senior Courtney McKimmey also took both of her singles matches, including a 6-2 win against Lee in the second round.
Freshman Maggie Rich also went 2-0, highlighted by a 7-6 win (7-5 on the tie-breaker) against Kylee Lyons.
The doubles team of Katelin Teigen-Kelly Sonnemann went 2-1 on the day. Their only loss came in the third round to Grace Bronken-Sarah Jobbins, 7-5.
Douglas hosts Damonte Ranch on Thursday in a Sierra League match that will feature singles meetings between Landerfelt and McKimmey with Meta Zagar. As a freshman in 2012, Zagar was the Sierra League’s No. 7 seed in the Northern Division I Regional Tournament and eventually advanced to the quarterfinals.
