The Coleville High volleyball team bumped off Whittell on Saturday for an important Western Division IV league victory.
Coleville (2-1 league, 6-7 overall) won by scores of 25-19 25-12 16-25 25-20 against a traditionally strong Whittell program.
The Warriors were the Division III Northern Regional tournament semifinalist in 2012 and a state tournament runner-up in 2011 and 2010.
Whittell (2-2 league) was coming off a loss against Smith Valley.
Coleville was led by senior captain and setter Miranda Sturdivant, who “set the tone for us offensively,” coach Kyle Pattison noted. Sophomore Naomi Graves also had a “major impact with her defense and serving,” Pattison added.
The previous Tuesday, the Wolves lost 3-1 at Virginia City. The game scores were 25-22, 23-25, 25-9, 25-17.
Coleville’s other league win came against Sierra Lutheran, 3-0. The game scores were 25-18, 25-6, 25-18.
Coleville’s JV team lost on Saturday to Whittell, 2-0.
The Wolves traveled to Hawthorne on Tuesday for a match against Mineral County (results were not available at press time) and visit Smith Valley on Saturday. Coleville’s next home match is Oct. 1 against Silver Stage.
