Drills sharpen skills at hazmat training

A hazardous materials exercise at GE Energy had rescuers suiting up for a sulfuric acid spill on Friday. “We have two folks injured and one immobilized and unable to extricate himself,” East Fork Deputy Chief Tim Soule said describing the drill. “We need to retrieve that person safely.” A dozen firefighters donned the white plastic suits required to protect them from the acid’s deadly fumes, as others coordinated the drill and established the scenario.
