The Douglas softball team breezed through its final test before the start of the Sierra League season, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader from Reno High School in Reno Saturday.
Douglas won the opener 7-4 and closed out the sweep with a 6-1 win.
The Lady Tigers racked up 20 hits and 13 runs on the day.
Douglas built a 2-0 lead through two and a half innings in the opener before Reno rallied for four runs to take back the lead.
Douglas answered with a run in the top of the fourth and went up for good with two runs in the top of the fifth.
The Tigers added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Freshman Kaitlyn Bowman continued the solid start to her career, striking out seven and walking two to improve to 2-1.
Leonna Mortimer homered, Kelly Sonnemann and Allison Meyer each tripled and Makayla Shaver doubled to lead the Tigers at the plate.
Sonnemann finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Bowman drove in an additional pair of runs to help her own effort in the circle.
In game 2, Douglas’ Kali Sargent struck out six and walked one, scattering seven hits in a complete-game effort.
Meyer and Sonnemann each tripled again, Meyer drove in a pair of runs and Brown drove in another.
The game went scoreless through the first three and a half innings before Reno plated its lone run.
Douglas went ahead with two runs in the top of the six and added another four in the top of the seventh.
The Tigers improved to 5-2 overall on the year.
