Fishing Derby set for May 31-June 1

The 25th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held May 31-June 1 for at Lampe Park.

Open and free to all kids ages 3-12, the two-day derby offers more than fishing for young and old alike. Derby hats, T-shirts and other resale items will be available for purchase. Raffle tickets are available for $1 each or 6 for $5. Grand prizes this year include a two-seat youth quad, a $300 gift card from the Sportsman’s Warehouse and a large outdoor barbecue.

Tickets are free, however, participants must pre-register to receive a session ticket.

Registration forms, for mail-in only, are available at the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department. Registration and volunteer sign-ups will begin on April 1 and continue every Saturday through May from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Walgreens in Gardnerville.

Volunteers are needed to help with setup, cleanup, registration, stream help, fish cleaning and more. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is encouraged to pick up a volunteer form at the parks and recreation department or to stop by Walgreens starting April 1.
