Carson Valley runners compete in C-Hill race

Seven Carson Valley runners cracked the top 10 March 8 at the C-Hill, Run Hill, Ice 5K and 8-mile races in Carson City.

Karina Peterson, 15, of Minden was the overall winner of the 5K in a time of 24:50 on an out-and-back course that challenged runners with a 600-foot elevation gain on C-Hill. This marked Peterson's fourth straight 5K win in the five-race Ascent Runs Winter Trail Series.

Jeff Dodge, 53, of Carson City finished second overall in 28:34, while Gardnerville's Norah Gastelum was third overall and first in the women's 40-49 age group in 29:37.

Bruce Beamer of Minden placed fifth overall and first in the men's 60-69 age group with a time of 33:37. Pam Flowers of Minden was 10th overall and second in the women's 50-59 age group in 36:37.

In the 8-miler, a course that featured a 1,300-foot elevation gain, Colleen Powers of Genoa placed sixth overall and second in the women's 30-39 age group with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, 23 seconds. Minden's Joselio Ramirez ran to eighth-place in 1:20:54 and Andy Pape of Genoa was 10th in 1:22:16.

Brett Long of Carson City emerged as the overall winner in 1:05:57.

A total of 36 runners and walkers participated in the 8-miler and 32 in the 5K.
