Bull smackdown coming to Carson
June 5, 2014
The 2014 Smackdown Bull Riding is coming to Carson City again this year. Sponsored by Bodines Casino, the bull riding will be June 7 at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds.
“We put on a great show last year,” said Manuel Souza, owner of Souza’s Bucking Bulls, which is supplying the livestock. “We’re trying to sell even more tickets this year.”
The show will feature 30 of the best bull riders on the West Coast, he said.
“We’re are going to have some of the top bull riders,” Souza said. “Really good riders.”
The event will kick off with mutton bustin’ and will feature entertainment including motorcycle and quad barrel racing, along with women’s wild cow riding.
“They’ll throw some dirt around the arena,” he said. “People will get excited about that. It’s going to be a great show.”
Souza said the one-night show last year lacked publicity, and he wants to get the word out this year.
“A lot of folks didn’t know about it,” he said. “People were disappointed they missed the show.”
Souza, who is based out of Central California, said he is moving much of his business into Northern Nevada, including shows in Winnemucca, Dayton Valley Days and at the Night in the Country in Yerington. He said he first heard that Carson City wouldn’t support a rodeo-like event, but found residents eager to attend.
“That’s a great arena there,” he said. “We filled up the seats last year. We’re hoping to get even more this year.”
Tickets are available at Bodines Casino or the Carson Valley Inn. They are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 6.
