Basketball: Lady Tigers 3rd at Lowry

Special to The R-C

The Douglas Lady Tigers spent three days in Winnemucca and competed in the Lowry Invitational Tourney over the weekend.

Going 3-1, the Tigers took third place with a win on Saturday afternoon over the host Lowry Buckaroos, 43-37.

Led by Desiree Cage and her 10 points and Katie McCullough with eight points, the Lady Tigers mounted a balanced attack and their tough defense once again came up with big play after big play.

The Tigers defense held opponents to 27, 24, 27 and 37 points in the tournament’s four games.

“If we hold teams to around 30 points, we’ll win some games” said Douglas coach Werner Christen.

“The tournament was a great opportunity to get away as a team, play some good basketball teams and start to figure out how to play together.”

“We are learning a lot about each other, learning how to score, where each other will be on the court and when. This was great for us,” Christen said.
