June 28, 2013
The Carson Valley Little League 9/10 all-stars rode the strong pitching of Camden Brown who threw a no-hitter in leading his team to an 11-1 victory over Truckee in the opener of the Nevada District I Little League Tournament Wednesday at Governor's Field in Carson City.
Brown struck out four and walked only one and was assisted in his effort by the strong work of catcher Gabe Foster. Brown was also supported by the outstanding defense of his outfield, including Adam Garren, Austin Sullivan, Matthew Goff, Calvin Doerr, Luke Rodina and Anthony Menzer. The outfield was lead by Wyatt Grissell who made nice running catch in center field and also contributed an RBI single. The defense also featured strong infield work by third baseman Austin Grant and shortstop Luke Cochran who was perfect in four chances.
Leadoff hitter Luke Ackerman started the game for Carson Valley with a single and got hits in all three of his at-bats. Christopher Thacker contributed a couple of hits and scored 3 times. Also adding hits were Grant, Cochran and Foster.
Carson Valley followed that up with a 12-2 win over Sparks Centennial Thursday, getting another strong pitching performance.
This time, it was the combination of Christopher Thacker and Luke Cochran. Thacker through 3 2/3 innings, striking out 6 and only walking one. Cochran came in and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Carson Valley again featured strong defense all around the field including turning a difficult double play in the fifth inning that went from Cochran at pitcher to shortstop Camden Brown and on to first baseman Matthew Goff to end the inning and the threat.
The outfield including Anthony Menzer, Wyatt Grissell, Adam Garren, Austin Sullivan and Calvin Doerr turned in a solid performance.
Carson Valley got hits and runs throughout the lineup. Luke Ackerman again started the game with a hit and collected another one late in the game. Luke Rodina demonstrated smart aggressive base running that helped lead to two of Carson Valley's runs.
