Auto Racing: Tanner Thorson to race out of Indiana this season
May 7, 2013
Carson Valley resident Tanner Thorson has progressively climbed through the various levels of the racing world since he entered it at the age of 4 and a half.
This season, he's taking his career to the next level. The catch is, the next level involves a jump all the way to Indiana.
Thorson, 16, will race in the United States Auto Club Midget National Series and the POWRi Midget Series. The circuits will take him all over the East Coast and Midwest, meaning he'll stay in Columbus, Indiana with his car runner for the duration.
"I'm excited," Thorson said. "I'll get to travel all over the place and it's that next step. Eventually, the end goal is World of Outlaw sprint cars or NASCAR."
Thorson, who has long excelled on various regional spring kart circuits, has raced for the California-based Abreu Vineyards team over the past two seasons.
"My teammate, Rico Abreu, is the sponsor's son and he's been racing back East," Thorson said. "The opportunity came up to go join him and it kind of just all fell into place.

This season, he'll race for Keith Kunz Motorsports with teammates Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson and Rica Abreu.
Thorson said he was thankful for his sponsors, which include Keith Kunz Motorsports, Abreu Vineyards, Bullet Chassis and Toyota.
"I'm just hoping to get my name out there, gain followers on Twitter and hopefully get people interested in how I'm doing," said Thorson, whose Twitter handle is @tdracing88. His Web site is tannerthorson.com.
