A trio of familiar offensive threats combined to score seven goals Tuesday for the Douglas High girls soccer team in its 7-0 Sierra League victory against Wooster in Reno.
Allissa Holley scored three goals, while McKenna Kynett and Alexis von Schottenstein added two each for Douglas (2-0).
Holley, the team’s leading scorer before going down with a season-ending injury in 2012, scored twice in the first half to help the Tigers take a 5-0 lead. Von Schottenstein, the Tigers’ leading scorer in 2011 who missed last season with an ACL injury, contributed one goal in each half. Kynett, who finished the 2012 season with 29 goals, scored twice in the first half.
Corryne Millett and Grace Brooks each played one half in the net to share credit for the team’s second shutout of the young season. Millett had four saves in the first half on a day when the Tigers’ defense gave up few shot opportunities.
A more challenging test awaits Saturday when the Tigers play their home opener against Sierra League rival Galena in an 11 a.m. contest on the turf at Keith Roman Field. Galena has won two state titles and two state runner-up finishes in the last nine years. On the other hand, Douglas has compiled a 104-13-6 record since 2008, highlighted by two regional championships and two state titles.
